What is Hypnotherapy?

The term hypnotherapy encompasses a spectrum of techniques that allows easier communication with your inner mind or subconscious. When you access this deep level of communication, the hypnotherapist can guide you into making positive changes to the programming of your mind - a bit like accessing and changing data on a computer. Hypnotherapy is nothing like you would see on the television nor is it a form of mind control. Your hypnotherapist is simply a guide - you must want to make these positive changes and have a clear goal in mind. Because changes occur at the level of the subconscious, you can make dramatic changes to the way you feel about a situation - allowing you to feel much more in control and subsequently think, feel and act in a way that is much more beneficial - beneficial to you and your life.

Who should you see?

If you're looking for help with your situation from a hypnotherapist, how do you decide who to go and see? That's a very good question. There are A LOT of great hypnotherapists out there but largely the industry is unregulated. In fact ANYONE can study a basic course in hypnosis and start up their own business!

One good source of finding a fully qualified hypnotherapist near you would be to visit the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

How am I different?

As a qualified General Practitioner with a medical degree and membership to the Royal College of General Practitioners and registered with the General Medical Council you know that you are in the safest of hands.

I qualified in medical hypnotherapy with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis in 2007 and became a member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis following a further practitioner diploma in hypnotherapy in 2008. I work part time as a GP and parttime as a medical hypnotherapist and weight loss coach.

Unfortunately hypnotherapy is not generally available on the NHS.

Why hypnotherapy?

There are a large number of conditions in which seeing your GP is essential and following their advice and medication recommendations is life saving. However for some conditions there is a limit to what your General Practitioner is going to be able to offer you other than using medication to mask a symptom and nearly always at a cost to you since EVERY drug has side effects. There are other situations that are so unique that there is no pharmaceutical solution - but where there is a clear loop of unhelpful thought in the subconscious and where hypnotherapy is well placed to deal with.

Please feel free to contact me for any questions as to whether hypnotherapy might be able to help you.
